Eyes on the Skies: The Current Night Sky, What to Watch for, How to Observe It
Dr. James Lattis holds a Ph.D. in the history of science from University of Wisconsin and helped create UW Space Place, the university’s astronomy outreach and public education center, which he directed from its founding until its closing in 2025. He manages the historic Washburn Observatory, teaches courses in astronomy and its history, and is a frequent guest on Wisconsin and National Public Radio. Lattis will guide the audience through the current night sky, sharing what to watch for and how to get the most out of stargazing, whether with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
Badger Talks reflects our tradition of the Wisconsin Idea — to extend the resources of the university to citizens of the state. Over 300 Badger Talks are hosted around the state each year, featuring faculty and staff with expertise in a variety of disciplines. Talk topics range from cutting edge discoveries to happiness in the workplace and everything in between. Professional, community, and civic organizations, as well as schools, are invited to request a UW–Madison speaker.
The Bend Sessions Community Lecture Series runs from August 10th through November 24th and is a FREE event open to the public.
