The Story

Still the Best Revenge Comedy Ever Made

Judy, Violet, and Doralee work for Franklin Hart Jr. — a boss who takes credit for their ideas, blocks their promotions, and thinks the office is his personal hunting ground. One very bad day and one very vivid daydream later, the three of them end up running the place, and running it better.

Released in December 1980, 9 to 5 became one of the highest-grossing comedies of its era and marked Dolly Parton’s film debut. Her theme song earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song and won two Grammys. More than four decades on, the laughs land just as hard and the point still stands.
