DESCRIPTION:The son of a small town farming community\, Cody Diekhoff logged plenty of highway and stage time under the name Chicago Farmer before settling in the city in 2003. Profoundly inspired by fellow midwesterner John Prine\, he’s a working-class folk musician to his core. His small town roots\, tilled with city streets mentality\, are turning heads North and South of I-80. \n  \n“I love the energy\, music\, and creativity of Chicago\, but at the same time\, the roots and hard work of my small town\,” he shares. Growing up in Delavan\, Illinois\, with a population less than 2\,000\, Diekhoff’s grandparents were farmers\, and their values have always provided the baseline of his songs. \n  \nHe writes music for “the kind of people that come to my shows. Whether in Chicago or Delavan\, everyone has a story\, and everyone puts in a long day and works hard the same way\,” he says. “My generation may have been labeled as slackers\, but I don’t know anyone who doesn’t work hard – many people I know put in 50-60 hours a week and 12 hour days. That’s what keeps me playing. I don’t like anyone to be left out; my music is for everyone in big and very small towns.” \n  \nHe listened to punk rock and grunge as a kid before discovering a friend’s dad playing Hank Williams\, and it was a revelation. Prine and Guthrie quickly followed. The name Chicago Farmer was originally for a band\, but the utilitarian life of driving alone from bar to bar\, city to city – to make a direct connection to his audience and listener\, took a deeper hold. \n  \nOpening the show\, Listening Party\, a 2018 Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) nominee for Bluegrass/Americana\, have found a place in the original music scene around the Midwest with their soulful stage presence and infectious melodies. The trio out of Milwaukee\, WI present a fresh brand of Americana music that feeds from folk\, classic rock\, soul and bluegrass.

This is an experience that only The Bend Theater could provide! \n  \nErica Rhodes \nAt the age of ten\, Erica Rhodes started her entertainment career by voicing the conscience of legendary humorist and writer Garrison Keillor on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion and has worked on that show ever since.  She has performed on stage with Meryl Streep for PBS’ A Prairie Home Companion Celebrates the 4th of July special and co-starred with Martin Sheen when the famous radio show played L.A.’s Greek Theatre and Hollywood Bowl shows. \n  \nErica starred in the cult horror film Plague Town and recently wrapped a supporting role in Play Nice\, directed by Rodman Flender and starring Mary Lynn Rajskub.  She also starred in Big Sky\, an indie road trip movie that followed a young couple’s journey from L.A. to Montana.   Erica co-created and starred in the award-winning web series Apt. 45\, but is probably best known for the character of Sandy in Iron Sink Media’s web series Upstairs Girls and her own hit spin-off Sandy’s Channel. \n  \nErica is also a fast-rising standup comic with appearances on Comedy Central’s @ Midnight\, AXS’ Live at Gotham\, and the syndicated Comics Unleashed.  In 2015\, she performed standup at San Francisco Sketchfest\, the Moontower Comedy Festival (Austin\, TX)\, the Blue Whale Comedy Festival (Tulsa\, OK)\, and the Boston Comedy Festival. \n  \nKatie Toupin  \nKatie has found a home in her role as a solo artist after leaving the critically acclaimed alt-country band\, Houndmouth in 2016. Mikhailovna has worked with Brooklyn based producer Charles Newman on her 2019 full length album\, Uncharted Ocean (released on Mother West label). \n  \nThe group’s music has been featured in NPR Variety shows and commercials around the world. Your mistakes and big ambitions are behind you\, nothing left to prove\, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s what’s left. (“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an intellectual\, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t pay to be made unhappy\, their kids will do it for free.”) \n  \nThere is the News from Lake Wobegon\, a town booming with new entrepreneurs\, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf\, breeders of composting worms\, and dogs trained to do childcare. But some things endure\, such as the formation of the Living Flag on Main Street\, citizens in tight formation wearing red\, white or blue caps\, and Mr. Keillor among them\, standing close to old neighbors\, Myrtle Krebsbach (“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno\, The Fishing Dog”) and Clint Bunsen. And an a cappella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs\, pop standards\, hymns\, and ending with the national anthem.
