DESCRIPTION:The Rumpke Mountain Boys combine signature vocals\, a unique command of string instruments (acoustic guitar\, mandolin\, upright bass\, and banjo)\, and dynamic special effects into a singular musical experience. An emotion-filled musical stream of consciousness with no setlist\, minimal structure\, and intuitive improvisational flow. In this way\, they summon the energy of the crowd as their guide in linking just the right music to precise moments in time. \nGrateful Dead Hour host David Gans proclaimed\, “One of the things I love about the Rumpke Mountain Boys is that there’s a fundamental honesty in their presentation. This is something they share with my other heroes\, Donna the Buffalo and the Grateful Dead. They don’t make setlists ahead of time\, they don’t rehearse their songs to a fare-thee-well– they perform in real-time. All four of them write\, which is very important\, and they draw songs from a tremendous variety of sources… being a musician is a life-long learning experience if you’re doing it right\, and they are.” \nLike playing around a campfire\, the Boys take turns calling the next tune\, distilling shows from a sea of infinite notes created from years of jamming. Drawing upon a growing catalog of originals and an eclectic mix of covers\, the Rumpke Mountain Boys blend music like a fine Irish whiskey– the result affectionately dubbed Trashgrass. The Boys titled their 2012 album release with the same name\, followed by their 2013 release\, Moon\, which was recorded at the famed Royal Studios in Memphis. 2016’s High Time\, Low Tide marks the release of their 4th self-produced album. \n2016 was outstanding for the string quartet. The Boys broke new ground throughout the country including Colorado\, California\, Oregon\, and the Southeast. Finishing up the year with two stellar highlights\, their own Snuggleween and the Rumpke Mountain Boys New Years Eve Ball in their hometown of Cincinnati. \nThe guys released a live album “In Good Company” in November 2018. The album was recorded live over 2 nights at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland\, OH. They continue to pave the way in the jamgrass scene today with their unique trashgrass style. DESCRIPTION:Chicken Wire Empire returns to The Bend Theater\nBorn from the Wisconsin jamband scene\, Chicken Wire Empire began as a traditional bluegrass band. The band honed its traditional sound in 2014 with their debut album Chicken Wire Empire. With half of the group rooted in bluegrass\, and the other half steeped in jamband music\, a change occurred when CWE performed an Old & In The Way tribute show. A new sound was found in Milwaukee\, and Chicken Wire Empire joined the roster of high energy jamgrass happening across the nation.  This journey from traditional to progressive was documented by director Ross Monagle in the film ”All It Takes\,” premiering in 2016 at the Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee. Recorded and mixed by sound engineer Sam Donoghue\, the film follows the band around Wisconsin and includes performances in Milwaukee’s historic Riverside Theatre.  In 2018\, the band returned to the studio\, recording their sophomore album “What Moves Mountains” at Axis Recording Studios with engineer Vinny Millevolte and the mastering talents of Justin Perkins. With support from their family and friends\, What Moves Mountains was released January 1st of 2019. \nIn 2020\, as live shows were drying up\, the band turned to live-streaming\, and were featured showcase artists in virtual renditions of the IBMA and Folk Alliance International conferences. The band used their time to arrange and record an album with Minnesota songsmith Chris Castino (The Big Wu) at NeonBrown with Ryan Young (Trampled by Turtles) engineering. The album features guests Peter Rowan\, Sam Bush\, Jerry Douglas\, Andy Hall\, Tim O’Brien\, and Nick Forester. Adept at both guitar and piano\, she writes her songs based on raw emotion and relatable experiences that cuts through with melody and sultry tone. Straight out of school\, she dove head first into music: touring nationally and internationally\, either by herself\, with her band\, or with other well renowned artists. She has released numerous records throughout her career and doesn’t plan on stopping. Her music has hints of indie folk\, bedroom pop and indie piano pop\, all tied in with her own spin and topped off with a unique and rich voice. Her songs and performing style incorporates humor and connection\, making the audience feel heard and immersed. \nAfter releasing her first album before graduating high school\, “It’s Not Like Anyone’s Listening”\, she went on to tour through the United States by herself or with other artists. She then released her second Ep\, “The River” in 2019 at Painted Recordings. While recording and writing\, she toured across the United States in Tennessee\, California\, Texas\, Vermont\, and eventually headed overseas where she did her first headlining European tour through Norway accompanied by a band. After returning she released her latest album\, “The Norway EP”\, which she had the opportunity to record in Scandinavia. Now she is currently working on her next project and planning on getting back to the road.

DESCRIPTION:Back by Popular Demand: The Bend welcomes Them Coulee Boys back to our historic stage!\nThem Coulee Boys craft a brand of Americana that blends folk\, punk\, bluegrass\, and rock & roll. They sing their conversational songs in 4 part harmony\, often with a banjo stomp and rhythm section punch that drives the audience onto the dance floor and into community. Their trusty van has propelled them thousands of miles across the country and into the hearts of strangers\, who tend to leave each show as family. \nSoren Staff and Beau Janke—co-founders of folk/rock/Americana outfit Them Coulee Boys—met as counselors at a bible camp in northern Wisconsin in 2011. Having both grown up amidst a stretch of glacial melt-carved river valleys in the upper Midwest\, otherwise known by French fur trappers as coulees\, they became fast friends. Camp counselors actually coined the name “them coulee boys” as a way to refer to the constant companions\, more often than not with instruments in hand. Soren’s little brother\, Jens\, joined the crew on mandolin at camp in 2012\, and since\, both Neil Krause on bass and Staš Hable on drums have helped to grow the band into the rollicking outfit it is today. \n“from pure and genuine ballads to a leaping\, countrified take on rock and roll” 2021 marks the release of their fourth record\, Namesake\, a ten-song collection that spans from pure and genuine ballads to a leaping\, countrified take on rock and roll. Singles from the recording have premiered via The Bluegrass Situation\, Ditty TV\, and Live for Live. Twangville readers dubbed the record “Best New Release”. \nNamesake was recorded at The Hive in the band’s hometown of Eau Claire\, WI. The album was produced by Grammy-winner Brian Joseph who has worked with the likes of Paul Simon\, Sufjan Stevens\, Ani Difranco\, and The Indigo Girls\, and earned his Grammy producing and engineering Bon Iver’s Bon Iver. Taking inspiration from the intimate nature of The Hive after a long period of quarantine\, Namesake feels familiar—like old friends with no need for small talk. There are moments of power and punch\, balanced with intimacy only felt between the ones we love. \nNamesake finds Them Coulee Boys following a new trajectory\, combining their signature take on folk-grass and Americana with comfort on electric instruments and playing rock and roll.
