SUMMARY:Them Coulee Boys
DESCRIPTION:Back by Popular Demand: The Bend welcomes Them Coulee Boys back to our historic stage!\nThem Coulee Boys craft a brand of Americana that blends folk\, punk\, bluegrass\, and rock & roll. They sing their conversational songs in 4 part harmony\, often with a banjo stomp and rhythm section punch that drives the audience onto the dance floor and into community. Their trusty van has propelled them thousands of miles across the country and into the hearts of strangers\, who tend to leave each show as family. \nSoren Staff and Beau Janke—co-founders of folk/rock/Americana outfit Them Coulee Boys—met as counselors at a bible camp in northern Wisconsin in 2011. Having both grown up amidst a stretch of glacial melt-carved river valleys in the upper Midwest\, otherwise known by French fur trappers as coulees\, they became fast friends. Camp counselors actually coined the name “them coulee boys” as a way to refer to the constant companions\, more often than not with instruments in hand. Soren’s little brother\, Jens\, joined the crew on mandolin at camp in 2012\, and since\, both Neil Krause on bass and Staš Hable on drums have helped to grow the band into the rollicking outfit it is today. \n“from pure and genuine ballads to a leaping\, countrified take on rock and roll” 2021 marks the release of their fourth record\, Namesake\, a ten-song collection that spans from pure and genuine ballads to a leaping\, countrified take on rock and roll. Singles from the recording have premiered via The Bluegrass Situation\, Ditty TV\, and Live for Live. Twangville readers dubbed the record “Best New Release”. \nNamesake was recorded at The Hive in the band’s hometown of Eau Claire\, WI. The album was produced by Grammy-winner Brian Joseph who has worked with the likes of Paul Simon\, Sufjan Stevens\, Ani Difranco\, and The Indigo Girls\, and earned his Grammy producing and engineering Bon Iver’s Bon Iver. Taking inspiration from the intimate nature of The Hive after a long period of quarantine\, Namesake feels familiar—like old friends with no need for small talk. There are moments of power and punch\, balanced with intimacy only felt between the ones we love. \nNamesake finds Them Coulee Boys following a new trajectory\, combining their signature take on folk-grass and Americana with comfort on electric instruments and playing rock and roll. The record lives and breathes. It’s both intimate and bombastic. It’s the sweet aunt who makes delicious pies and the wiley uncle who’s not afraid to hit a bit of the hooch. At the bottom is the acceptance that comes with family and old friends; none of us are perfect\, but there’s enough love out there to make up for it. \nMore About Them Coulee Boys: \nWith four full-length albums and an EP behind them\, including 2019’s Die Happy (produced by Trampled By Turtles’ Dave Simonett on Lo-HiRecords) and 2021’s Namesake (produced by Grammy winner Brian Joseph)\, the band has garnered international attention and earned press in American Songwriter\, Ditty TV\, Folk Alley\, and The Bluegrass Situation\, as well as tours with Trampled By Turtles and a spot on the songwriter’s Cayamo Cruise. In 2020\, they were named Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Band to Watch. In 2021\, they won Bluegrass/Americana Band of the Year by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry. \nFor all things Them Coulee Boys\, please visit themcouleeboys.com. \nDoors open at 6:30 PM to give you time to find your seats\, visit our historic lobby\, concession stand and fully stocked bar! Show begins at approximately 7:30 PM

SUMMARY:Maddie Poppe ft. special guest Genevieve Heyward
DESCRIPTION:The Bend Welcomes American Idol Winner Maddie Poppe\nft. special guest Genevieve Heyward\nUnless you’ve experienced it firsthand\, there’s no way to understand just how dramatically instant fame can mess with your head. Maddie Poppe went through all kinds of emotions — from elation to self-doubt — after winning American Idol in 2018\, releasing her debut album Whirlwind the following year\, and then ultimately watching in amazement as many of the people in her creative orbit dropped away.  Despite the momentum from a pair of hit singles\, “Made You Miss” and “Not Losing You\,” Maddie found herself alone\, and her future as an artist uncertain. \n“There were so many times I felt I had the rug pulled out from under me. Like the minute any momentum had built up\, it came crumbling back down. From losing team members to seeing\ncrucial opportunities fall through\, I found myself feeling so helpless and thinking\, ‘How am I going to do this on my own?’ It felt like I was standing at the bottom of a mountain I was too afraid to climb\,” Maddie says. “It took some time\, but I finally realized I didn’t have a choice\, my fate was in my own hands. I had to face my fears\, rise above. \nThe Iowa native\, who captured the attention of fans with her folksy singer-songwriter style\, did exactly that by giving herself the grace to evolve. While Maddie\, now 24\, can still very much\nbowl over a crowd with only her honeyed voice and acoustic guitar\, she’s upped her game by tapping into a modern sound that blends R&B\, pop\, and Americana\, and by committing herself to writing her own songs.  On her irresistible new single “One That Got Away\,” Maddie writes about the dissolution of a friend’s longtime relationship\, predicting that the guy who foolishly dumped her will realize he threw away something great. But the song — a soulful jam with shades of Bruno Mars and Maroon 5 — can also be seen as a commentary on Maddie’s own experience in the music industry. \n                                                                                                                                                                                                 \nSince she can remember\, Wisconsin based singer-songwriter Genevieve Heyward has grown up with music in her life. Adept at both guitar and piano\, she writes her songs based on raw emotion and relatable experiences that cuts through with melody and sultry tone. Straight out of school\, she dove head first into music: touring nationally and internationally\, either by herself\, with her band\, or with other well renowned artists. She has released numerous records throughout her career and doesn’t plan on stopping. Her music has hints of indie folk\, bedroom pop and indie piano pop\, all tied in with her own spin and topped off with a unique and rich voice. Her songs and performing style incorporates humor and connection\, making the audience feel heard and immersed. \nAfter releasing her first album before graduating high school\, “It’s Not Like Anyone’s Listening”\, she went on to tour through the United States by herself or with other artists. She then released her second Ep\, “The River” in 2019 at Painted Recordings. While recording and writing\, she toured across the United States in Tennessee\, California\, Texas\, Vermont\, and eventually headed overseas where she did her first headlining European tour through Norway accompanied by a band. After returning she released her latest album\, “The Norway EP”\, which she had the opportunity to record in Scandinavia. Now she is currently working on her next project and planning on getting back to the road. \n                                                                                                                                                                                                 \nDoors open at 6:30 PM to give you time to find your seats\, visit our historic lobby\, concession stand and fully stocked bar! \nShow begins at approximately 7:30 PM

SUMMARY:Southbound: 50th Anniversary Celebration of The Allman Brothers Band's album "Brothers and Sisters"
DESCRIPTION:The Bend Theater brings you Southbound: 50th Anniversary Celebration of The Allman Brothers Band’s classic album “Brothers and Sisters”\nPlease join Southbound on Friday\, March 31st at The Bend for a special Allman Brothers Band tribute show. This concert features a celebration of the 50th anniversary release of the classic “Brothers And Sisters” album. Southbound will perform a respectful and accurate rendition of the entire Album along with a “Best Of” set of the ABB. This is one show that Allman Brothers fans cannot miss. All Allmans\, All Night! \nSouthbound is a Milwaukee-based band\, which specializes in classic rock with a jam-based groove. With a thirty-year history of producing authentic versions of the best rock music in history\, Southbound maintains the integrity of music they cover while adding a touch of their own originality. Southbound has enjoyed much success in the Midwest performing in front of large audiences and high-profile concerts such as Summerfest\, Harley Anniversary headlining shows and the Wisconsin State Fair and much more. Southbound has built an extraordinary following which appeals to a wide range of music lovers who appreciate great rock and roll. The focal point of the Southbound experience involves strong vocals and stunning instrumentation. Southbound is comprised of Stan Lukasz (Lead Vocals\, Guitar)\, Gary Koehler (Guitar\, Vocals)\, Tony May (Keyboards\, Vocals)\, Tim Schulz (Drums\, Percussion)\, Jim May (Bass\, Vocals) and special guest on drums\, Mike Kasprzak (Cactus Brothers & Violent Femmes). Southbound’s repertoire consists of original music as well as music from The Allman Brothers Band\, The Rolling Stones\, The Grateful Dead\, The Band\, The Doors\, ZZ Top\, Lynyrd Skynyrd\, Santana\, Eric Clapton\, Jimi Hendrix\, Led Zeppelin\, Pink Floyd\, The Black Crowes\, The Beatles\, CCR and much more… \nShepherd Express: Critic’s Choice \nMilwaukee’s Southbound has drawn crowds with their own versions of hippie-rock standards. The band broke away from their demanding schedule to record a self-titled disc of self-penned material. “We’ve been incorporating originals into the sets for sometime now and been getting great response\,” says drummer Tim Schulz. Their own songs stay true to the roots of their covers. The musicianship is top-notch\, and although the production level is high\, an undeniable looseness keeps the record accessible to those who enjoy the Allman Brothers-like feel that has made the band so popular. Most bands in this area of music never make it past their first never-ending gigtuned-jam\, but Southbound has stood the test of time\, evolving and remaining fresh\, maintaining their following\, and drawing in new fans show after show. \nThe Onion \nSouthbound is like the house band for the entire city of Milwaukee\, playing practically every week at bars\, clubs\, and festivals\, as well as traveling throughout the state. Though the group packs its sets with crowd-pleasing covers\, Southbound recorded a CD of original compositions. So\, in addition to works by the Allman Brothers (whose “Southbound” inspired this band’s name)\, the Grateful Dead\, and the Rolling Stones\, fans can now shout for Southbound’s own material… \nOn Milwaukee.com \nSouthbound fans range from hippies to rockers and everyone in between. The band recorded their first album\, self-title “Southbound”. The record is a kaleidoscope of styles\, from the danceable\, Grateful-Deady “Latent Heat” to the soulful\, mellow “Plea.” Southbound doesn’t reinvent the wheel\, rather the band creates songs that their favorite artists might have written themselves. It’s almost as if they are channeling the sounds of classic rock bands\, and\, lucky for our ears\, doing it quite well… \nMilwaukee Magazine Run For Cover \nThe knock on “cover bands” – groups that play songs written by others – is that lack of original material (whatever that means) automatically assigns them second-class status. The sentiment ignores the fact that much of today’s “post modern\,” “Information Age” music – sample[1]based electronic and hip-hop\, for example – is culled\, with varying degrees of legality\, from previously recorded or written material. It also fails to recognize that some cover bands please crowds by combining accessible material with top-notch musicianship\, including improvisation within cover songs. The members of the local band Southbound\, who play tunes by the Grateful Dead\, Allman Brothers\, Doors and others\, aren’t exactly losing sleep over the cover band label. \nDoors open at 6:30 PM to give you time to find your seats\, visit our historic lobby\, concession stand and fully stocked bar! Show begins at approximately 7:30 PM.

SUMMARY:Twitty & Lynn: A Salute to Conway & Loretta
DESCRIPTION:Twitty & Lynn return to The Bend’s historic stage with a heartfelt tribute to their grandparents: Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn!\n  \nTayla Lynn and Tre Twitty have country music in their blood. The grandchildren of famed duo Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty\, the two have taken to the road to honor their grandparents in an intimate evening of music and storytelling. Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty have seen great success with their Tribute to Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty; going into their second year together\, the duo already has at least two dozen tour dates set throughout much of North America and Canada. \nThrough their memories of Memaw and Poppy\, as they call their grandparents\, the show takes on the quality of a family get-together\, and it often feels more like one is on the front porch with guitars and old family hymns than it does a concert. It is a fascinating opportunity to see two of country music’s greatest legends through their grandchildren’s eyes. The high-energy\, heartfelt show highlights not only the bond Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty had as best friends and musical partners\, but the unique bond Tayla and Tre have formed through years of intertwined family history and their own musical relationship. \nTwitty & Lynn’s tribute is a lovely\, heartfelt & first class performance depicting their respect and love for their legendary grandparents with grace and style. \n“I love Conway.  I miss him so much.  I know he would be so proud of Tre.  I’m so proud of both of them for being out there\, doing our show.  Thank you all for loving our grandkids and being so good to them out there.”  –Loretta Lynn before her passing \nDoors open at 6:30 PM to give you time to find your seats\, visit our historic lobby\, concession stand and fully stocked bar! Show begins at approximately 7:30 PM

SUMMARY:Willy Porter Band ft. special guest Tangled Lines Trio
DESCRIPTION:Live Music: Willy Porter Band at The Bend Theater\nGuitarist\, singer and songwriter Willy Porter has been touring solo and with ensembles of different sizes and shapes for over 30 years now. His current band combines Porter’s acoustic and electric fret work with the dynamic drumming of longtime collaborator Dave Schoepke\, ever-present keyboardist/collaborator Dave Adler\, songstress Carmen Nickerson on vocals and recent band addition Eric Madunic on Bass & vocals. \n“With his exquisite\, tranquil guitar work\, Willy Porter could easily astonish an audience without singing one note. His ability to engage the audience with his personality and intellect raises Porter from the level of guitar wonk into the realm of masterful performer.“\n— Earvolution \nWilly Porter continues on a musical and personal odyssey spanning over two decades\, 11 albums\, and multiple continents. Porter’s songs weave a universal perspective about the questions\, struggles\, and triumphs of human existence. His live shows are guitar-driven grit\, soul\, silence and muscle – at times electrifying\, dynamic\, and unique in the way that Porter’s voice blends and fuses with his fret work. \nIn addition to making a life in music\, Porter finds ways to make an impact on local and international levels. He is an active supporter of Advocates of Ozaukee\, a shelter and treatment facility for victims of domestic violence and abuse in Mequon\, Wisconsin. His annual benefit concerts have raised more than $100\,000 for this organization to date. He is also an Ambassador for Guitars for Vets\, a Milwaukee-based International organization that works to improve the lives of veterans by providing them with guitars and music lessons. \nDoors open at 6:30 PM to give you time to find your seats\, visit our historic lobby\, concession stand and fully stocked bar! Show begins at approximately 7:30 PM

SUMMARY:Old Guys with Old Songs w/ Fred Luft\, Rick Gilbertson & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Come support The Bend Theater with an evening of local\, well-known community musicians:\nOld Guys with Old Songs w/ Fred Luft\, Rick Gilbertson & Friends\nFred Luft and Rick Gilbertson are well-know in the West Bend community for their passion for music.  They have been involved in a wide variety of musical activities including area choirs\, church music in a number of local churches\, and they have performed at numerous wedding ceremonies.  Rick has participated in 50+ Community Theater Productions since 1979\, and Fred has been in approximately 30 Community Theater productions since 1970. More recently they play regularly at assisted living facilities in Washington and Ozaukee County. They have played with musical friends at the Kewaskum Arts Council In the Park Concert Series as “Eclectic Fred and Friends”\, and periodically play at local clubs together.  Rick plays once per month with another musical friend as “Rick and Dave” and has even performed at the Schauer Center. Fred’s claim to fame is 30 Two Hour Concerts on Facebook Live from his basement music room during Covid for family and friends (called the “Thirsty Thursday Concert Series”). He learned and performed over 350 songs for the series including many original fun songs.  Fred and Rick are also members of WAUI (the West Bend Area Ukulele Initiative) where they play Banjo Uke and Baritone Uke while singing songs of many genres and periods of musical history. \nThis talented dynamic duo often play with a number of very talented local music friends who fill out their sound with wonderful harmonies\, an extra guitar\, keyboard\, and bass. Playing alongside them at The Bend Theater will be talented singer/songwriter Cherie Zahn\, singer and keyboard player/leader of the EcuMen Choir Dave Bertelson\, Bassist for many area musical productions Bill Drimel\, and the talented Gary Jansen on percussion. \nFred Luft\, Rick Gilbertson & Friends are “Old Guys with Old Songs”\, an Eclectic Collection of their favorite songs of many genres and periods of musical history from the 19th century through modern times and featuring the music of their youth (the songs they heard and sang in the 1950’s\, 60’s and 70’s)”. \nMusical coordinator\, Fred Luft\, has been part of the West Bend community since attending the UW Center Campus in 1969 -1971. He moved to West Bend permanently after graduating from college in 1974.  As a small child from Waubeka\, Wisconsin (10 miles to the east of West Bend) he remembers his parents bringing the family to the theater in the 1950’s to see Bambi as well as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and others.  In 1969\, he recalls coming to see The Graduate – so many classics in this beautiful theater over the years. Fred is happy to see the restoration of this beautiful historic theater. He has hoped since its completion that one day he would be able sing a song on its stage.  Fred\, Rick & Friends are so excited to have this opportunity to support “The Bend” through this fundraiser. \nSinger/Songwriter and retired West Bend music teacher\, Cherie Zahn will be the opening act for “Old Guys with Old Songs”.  She will share some of her favorite original songs. \n**All proceeds from this event support The Bend Theater and our nonprofit mission. Thank you for your continued support of our historic theater in the heart of Downtown West Bend.

SUMMARY:Elton Dan & The Rocket Band w/ Special Guest Cher-ished
DESCRIPTION:Calling all Elton John and Cher fans! Join us at The Bend Theater for:\nElton Dan & The Rocket Band w/ Special Guest Cher-ished\nElton Dan Seeks to Carry the Candle for Experiencing the Live Concert Experience of Elton John! \nFrom his teenage years learning classical music on piano\, Elton Dan Gasser always held Elton John as his greatest influence. Through decades of improvising and singing on thousands of stages from bars to cruises to amphitheaters – Dan thrives on playing live and jumps at every gig offered him – Dan developed an ability to shine and to share that spotlight energy with the people who came to listen. He always added Elton John songs when the band was strong enough to pull it off. In 2015\, with the popularity of tribute bands on the rise\, Dan finally decided to do his destiny and lead a project paying homage to the greatest songbook in rock music. Thus\, Elton Dan and The Rocket Band was formed. \n“Elton John is my all-time favorite artist and primary inspiration for playing music\,” Elton Dan says. “There’s a lot to it. It’s not a challenge to play and sing\, but the diversity from album to album is a rich tapestry of influences including blues and especially country music.” “I play his music every day\, not only to get better also to be enriched and to learn more of his compositions.” \nAt an Elton Dan concert\, you will be enveloped into the magic of Elton’s music through a multimedia production\, over-the-top costume changes\, the incredible musicianship of the Rocket Band and the high-energy performance that Elton Dan brings to the stage like Elton John of the day’s past. “So much energy and pure joy!”\, “Fantastic costumes and production!”\, “Mesmerizing\,” are a taste of the comments from their fans. “I want our shows to be a true tribute to the greatest musical artist ever\,” Dan says. “When someone attends one of our shows\, I don’t try to imitate Elton. Rather\, I want the concertgoer to be immersed in the full experience.” Maybe Dan’s greatest talent is his love of people and ability to share the spotlight such that the audience feels like they are the rock stars! Fans now follow The Rocket Band around the country\, flying or driving in and meeting up with Dan and the band. “I do love to interact with people before\, during and after the shows\, I feed on it\,” Elton Dan says. “Seeing people become empowered\, validated\, even healed through a live music event is transformative in my life.” “We embrace ALL people to come and celebrate and be emboldened by the soundtrack of our lives that Elton and Bernie have left to us. It’s a tremendous honor and brings me great passion.” \nElton Dan has attended 17 Elton John concerts around the globe\, including being front and center during Elton’s final live shows in North America at Dodger Stadium this past November. Dan has interacted with David Furnish\, Elton John’s partner. As done last year\, on Elton’s birthday\, March 25\, Dan will video the audience singing “Happy Birthday” to Elton and send it to David for Elton to enjoy. It’s just another example how Elton Dan finds ways to make his concerts an even greater event to empower and celebrate people. \nFind out more at EltonDan.com \nDoors open at 6:30 PM to give you time to find your seats\, visit our historic lobby\, concession stand and fully stocked bar! Show begins at approximately 7:30 PM
