That claim holds infinite validity. Mud’s father was the immortal Muddy Waters. For the last couple of decades\, Mud has followed in his beloved dad’s mammoth footsteps\, staunchly keeping the traditional Chicago blues flame alight by faithfully singing Muddy’s songs as well as plenty of his own originals in front of an all-star band of local heavy-hitters. He sauntered onto the main stage at the 2025 Chicago Blues Festival to belt his father’s “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man” as one of the main cogs in a gala celebration of Chess Records’ 75th anniversary\, looking and sounding every bit the heir to Muddy’s gilded throne. \nStudebaker John Grimaldi was born in an Italian-American section of Chicago and  started playing harmonica at age 7.  Under the spell of music he heard  on Maxwell Street\, Chicago’s famed blues melting pot\, Grimaldi began  performing as Studebaker John and the Hawks in the ‘70s.  The band referenced the Studebaker Hawk\, a car Grimaldi still owns today\, and was  also intended as a tribute to his friend\, J.B. Perhaps best known for co-founding the famed ‘90s Alternative Country quintet\, BR5-49\, whos 7 albums garnered a CMA Award for Best International Touring Act and three Grammy nominations\, helped build an indelible bridge between authentic American Roots music and millions of fans worldwide. \nSince then he’s toured the globe\, entertained thousands on the high seas\, released 4 solo albums\, made 137 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry\, co-produced critically acclaimed tribute albums to Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings\, acted as Musical Director/Supervisor/Producer of the Broadway hit musical Million Dollar Quartet AND the companion CMT television show Sun Records. \nLaid Back Country Picker is the stage persona of David Prince\, a Kentucky-based social studies teacher and musician known for blending 70s country\, rock\, and punk with a “hillbilly” sensibility.
